On the Life of An Astronomer Hermit and Astrology

In this post, we hypothesize how astrology might have come into existence as a natural consequence of a hermit living alone for a long time in Nature with the aim of coming up with a theory as to why prominent events occur at specific times. This hermit would be similar to that in Thanu Padmanabhan's Akbar story. Note that we make absolutely no claims about the efficacy of astrology whatsoever.

Imagine a hermit, H, living in a hut and interacting only with Nature. In addition, imagine H to have a good knowledge of astronomy. H's aim is to try to come up with a theory as to why prominent events happened in their past at specific times. When H's mind analyzes the events happening around them and those that have happened to them and to others in the past, the only movement they know is that in the Nature around them and that of the planets via their knowledge of astronomy, that's the only sense of Time they have.

It's in the nature of the mind to start correlating planetary motion with the events that have happened in their own lives and those in the lives of others, because H is not aware of any other movement other than the planetary movement known via the mathematics of astronomy and the movement in the Nature around them. This may be how astrology came into existence.

Thus, we hypothesize that it's in the nature of the mind of a knowledgeable hermit to correlate planetary motion known via mathematics with prominent events, if their aim is to come up with a theory to explain why prominent events occur at specific times.
